The Eden Athletic Club (EAC) was formally established in 1972, however, Eden basketball has been in the East Bay for over 80 years, when Ashland Gakuen, the precursor to the Eden Japanese Community Center, brought youth basketball to the local Japanese American community.

The need for a sport such as basketball, that stresses physical fitness and recreation in a friendly environment, was evident from the start. Linking those goals with the Eden Japanese American community made it much more than just playing basketball.

TEAMS, PRACTICES & LEAGUES

This year, the Eden program has approximately 90 players participating on 11 teams comprised of players from K - 9th grades, who participate in C, D and E divisions in the East Bay Youth Athletic League (EBYAL) and the East Bay Girls Athletic League (EBGAL).

Our season begins with practice in September, and culminates with the Eden Jamboree in March/April, where over 400 participants from 40+ teams, ranging from K-6th grades come together for an enjoyable and competitive day of basketball.

ANNUAL EVENTS

In December, EAC parents and players get together for our annual Mochitsuki. The mochi is packaged and delivered locally, and to seniors at the Eden Issei Terrace, just in time for New Year celebrations.

Every June, Eden JACL hosts the Eden Township Bazaar, at the Eden Japanese Community Center. Games for children and B-I-N-G-O for adults are supplemented with a generous selection of homemade foods.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Being an Eden parent requires a lot more time and energy than many sporting organizations, but it is clear that our families benefit from a richer experience - they are part of a community.
